International Variations in Hemodialysis Care and Outcomes: The Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS)

Date: Sunday April 10, 2011
Time: 12:00 PM – 1:15 PM
Room: West Ballroom C (Vancouver Convention Center)

Initiated in 1996, the Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS) is a prospective cohort study of hemodialysis patients and practices, studying representative samples of dialysis units and patients in 12 countries. An overarching goal of the DOPPS is to identify modifiable practices associated with longer life and better quality of life for dialysis patients. The objective of this symposium is to provide the audience with an update of recent important DOPPS findings. Results related to diversity of provider survey data, variation in dialysate composition, and management of hepatitis C infection will be presented. All presentations will have a practical clinical focus. A question period (up to 3 minutes) will follow each presentation, and a panel discussion will end the symposium.
